Upstream: most of Shell's production operations are located in the Western desert: Badr el Din, Obaiyed, Matruh, Sitra and North East Abu Gharadig. We also have stakes in the Rosetta and North West Damietta concessions in the Nile Delta. In addition, Shell explores the largest deepwater concession in the world: the Northeast Mediterranean Deepwater Concession (NEMED).

Downstream: with over 55 retail stations in key locations, a lubricant oil blending plant, and a new depot to secure fuel supplies to key commercial customers as well as retail stations, Shell's downstream business goes from strength to strength. Shell Marketing's latest success was a Memorandum of Understanding to market a joint lubricant through Misr retail sites, further enhancing the partnership with Misr and creating new opportunities for growth.

Gas: in 2001, Shell embarked on a new gas distribution business, taking shares in NATGAS and forming Fayum Gas, both of which transport gas directly to domestic and industrial customers. And, in line with Shell's ongoing environmental commitments, we have initiated a new business Gas Express retailing compressed natural gas (CNG) for cars.
